From The Whisky Exchange – A really splendid dram, the best distillery-bottled Caol Ila in a long time, if not ever. Certainly the best of the unpeated series of recent years. Quite ridiculously strong, but utterly delicious. From Royal Mile Whiskies – Staff Tasting Notes Nose: Lots of “sweetie” aromas at first, Lemon Sherbert, boiled sweets, strawberry ice cream, also lots of creamy vanilla notes. Stewed Apples after a while. With water the sweetiness dissipates and there are more fresh fruit aromas like fresh green apples and lemons and limes. Also gets a little chalky. Palate: This packs a punch. Oily mouthfeel. Initial fruity/sweet combination – like toffee apples then lots of spicy oakiness. The strength of this is very evident. Finish: Very spicy, lots of white pepper, a little bit of fresh oranges. Quite mouth drying, almost quinine like. Long. Notes: An excellent dram that doesn’t muck about.
